How to advertise on ChatGPT (2026 guide)
Short answer: sign up at ads.openai.com with the OpenAI login you use for ChatGPT, create an advertiser account, add a credit card in Billing and launch a campaign. Ads go live once they pass review. Self-service Ads Manager requires your business's legal entity to be based in one of the 89 available countries.
ChatGPT ads are bought through OpenAI Ads Manager, a self-service platform at ads.openai.com. Ad testing started in the United States on February 9, 2026. On October 21, 2026, OpenAI expanded ChatGPT Ads to 26 more countries, for 89 in total.
This guide covers what to prepare, each setup step, who is eligible and the full country list. For bids, budgets and billing, see our ChatGPT ads cost guide.
Before you start: what you need
- An OpenAI account. You sign in with the same login you use for ChatGPT, or create one.
- A legal entity in an available country. The business that advertises and is billed must be based in a country on the availability list.
- A credit card and billing profile details: business name, billing address and an invoice email.
- Your website URL. Ads Manager can use it to draft your first ad.
- Your logo and the names you will use: Account Name, Brand Name and Legal Name.
Decide these before you submit: country or region, currency and time zone. OpenAI states they cannot be changed after the account is created.
How to set up a ChatGPT ads account, step by step
1. Sign in at ads.openai.com
Select Login or Sign up and sign in with your OpenAI account. Have one person create the advertiser account, then invite everyone else. If your business already has an account, ask its administrator to invite you instead of creating a second one.
2. Choose how to start
You have two paths:
- Start from your website. Enter your URL. Ads Manager drafts your first ad, you edit it, and you build your first campaign during signup.
- Skip to Ads Manager. Create the account first and build a campaign when you are ready.
3. Create the advertiser account
Enter your advertiser name and the required details. The name you enter fills all three name fields at first. You can change them separately later in Settings, General.
| Name | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Account Name | How you identify the account inside Ads Manager. Changing it triggers no review. |
| Brand Name | The public name shown with your ads in ChatGPT. Changing it triggers brand review and pauses ad serving until approved. |
| Legal Name | Your registered business name, used for billing and business verification. Changing it restarts business review and may pause serving. |
4. Set up billing
Open Billing and add your credit card and billing profile details. Campaigns cannot deliver until billing is set up. ChatGPT Ads uses postpay billing; the cost guide explains when your card is charged.
5. Confirm your logo and names
Go to Settings, General. Check your logo, make sure the Brand Name is how you want to appear in ads, and use your registered business name as the Legal Name.
6. Invite your team
Go to Settings, Users, select Invite and enter each person's email. Pick a role:
- Admin: full access to the platform
- Member: create and manage campaigns
- Viewer: view content only
7. Review and launch your first campaign
If you built a campaign during signup, review its status, budget and schedule. If you skipped that step, create one now. Ads go live once they pass review, and only when account, billing and campaign requirements are also met. If you created a campaign during signup but are not ready to spend, pause it.
Who can advertise on ChatGPT?
Eligibility depends on where your business is legally based, not where your customers are. To use self-service Ads Manager, the legal entity that will advertise and be billed must be based in an available country.
Some categories have extra rules. OpenAI does not currently allow political advertising in ChatGPT. Advertisers in sensitive or regulated categories, such as health and financial services, may be eligible only if they meet OpenAI's strict eligibility criteria. Ads are also not placed next to sensitive conversations, including personal health, mental health and politics.
Who sees your ads: users on the Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts do not see ads, and OpenAI does not show ads to accounts identified as belonging to people under 18. Personalized ads are not initially available in the European Economic Area or Switzerland.

How availability grew
- February 9, 2026: ad testing starts in the United States.
- By August 18, 2026: OpenAI says ads had expanded to eight additional markets.
- August 18, 2026: expansion to 31 European markets announced. Self-service access through Ads Manager opened across those markets on August 31, 2026.
- September 23, 2026: expansion to Southeast Asia and Taiwan.
- October 21, 2026: 26 more countries, including 14 more in Latin America (among them Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru), plus Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Total: 89.
What if your country is not on the list?
You can still create an account at ads.openai.com. OpenAI will notify you when self-service access opens in your country. Creating an account does not give you access early.
Signing up and self-service access are separate. In some markets, advertisers can also start through the OpenAI Ads Solutions team, agency partners or technology partners. Larger advertisers with more complex needs can contact OpenAI's Ads team about sales support.
Running ads for several businesses or clients
Create a separate ad account for each advertiser. One OpenAI login can belong to several accounts and switch between them.
There is a limit on creating accounts. Once your login belongs to 10 or more ad accounts, counting both accounts you created and accounts you were invited to, you cannot create another one yourself. You can still be invited to existing accounts.
Additional accounts are created from an existing eligible self-serve account that uses credit-card billing. Creating more accounts does not skip verification, account review or eligibility requirements.
Common setup mistakes
- Picking the wrong country, currency or time zone. They are permanent for that account.
- Creating a duplicate account when your company already has one. Ask its administrator to invite you.
- Renaming the brand mid-campaign. A Brand Name change pauses ad serving until it is approved.
- Launching before billing is set up. Campaigns will not deliver without it.
- Leaving a signup campaign active by accident. Ads created during signup can start running after approval, and spend can then accrue.
